That was uniquely Spanish not the Vatican
Yes, the quote was from History of the World Part 1 and it refers to the Spanish Inquisition but that didn't start until about 300 years after Pope Lucius III sent bishops to southern France to track down heretics called Catharists in 1184. The beginning of the Vatican Inquisition. There were in fact at least 4 different inquisitions, Vatican, Catholic, Spanish and Roman.

And if you think the Inquisitions were the only horrors visited upon the chumps by the church, you are charmingly naive.

Inquisition, residential schools, taking over pagan holidays. The list is long. And not just the catholic church.
Residential schools were govt run and set policy.

What's painful and emotionally damaging aboot pagan holidays? Nobody is willing to get nekkid do shrooms and chase pixies under the light of of the moon?

Hearing good news for Pope Francis although clearly at 88 a full recovery is not realistic. For the most part I have found him to be a good Pope and wish him well in his remaining years.
