However, my Chinese Canadian friend finds hairball's boat people photo highly insensitive. Her family escaped from Vietnam. She feels that the photo is an insult to Chinese Canadians. It shows a total lack of compassion to make fun of the weak and poor in an immigration forum.

Chinese immigrants are congregating in cities like Vancouver and Toronto. And why would anyone find the photo offensive when there were 2 boatloads of people dumped off BC coast. Not something pulled out of the hat.
As for shanghaimm's chinglish .. keep the racist joke to yourself.
And Peapod, I have lived in Europe, USA, Australia and Canada.
