Please if there is any voters from the riding ... Thunder Bay - Rainy River ... consider voting for the Conservatives this election.. under the Liberal party we have lost a population of over 10% The Conservative party is the only party who can stop this here as they have fresh ideas... I'm only 15 and if this city doesn't turn around soon under a new party, i'll be one of the thousands planning to leave in less then 10 years! :?

Martins government doesn't care about the north and its time we had a strong person in parliament.. don't vote for the name, vote for the platform!

Woah... prepare to be flamed.

I'm anxiously awaiting much pounding of chests with slings based on how everyone hates conservatives.

My advice is to hold to your principles.

Leaving the community you love due to a lack of economic opportunities is tough. We've had far too much of it in my home province of Saskatchewan.

Careful what you wish for, Super_39. The Conservatives' core support comes from Alberta...they no more care about issues in Northwest Ontario than the Liberals do.

Let's not forget that Harper actually sued the government of Canada in an attempt to get more corporate funding. link.

Did you even read the link you provided????

The link you provided did not refer to a lawsuit, but was a motion to stay the law that limits third-party advertising during an election campaign (ie Greenpeace, Taxpayers Federation, etc.).

I read it just fine, Dukee. Harper was trying to make sure that his wealthy corporate backers could keep on backing him. He wanted their ads on tv. He launched a suit against the Government of Canada in that attempt.

No.... you specifically said corporate funding. This has to do with 3rd party advertising during an election that is not affiliated with a political party.

You also mention a lawsuit. Where is the documentation of that?

When you lauch a legal action, it is commonly referred to as a lawsuit. Harper was trying to clear the way for his well-funded corporate pressure groups to be able to advertise for him.

You can try to weasel out of this with semantics, Dukee...that only makes you a weasel though. Harper didn't want to lose the advertising his corporate buddies provide.

If you agree with a law that muzzles the public during the course of an election, then fine. At least it lets me know where you stand on issues of freedom of speech.

It's not freedom of speech, it's an attempt to get around election advertising rules and election-funding laws. Harper believes in the best democracy his corporate cronies can buy. The laws are there to protect us from that and promote real democracy.

If you lived in Thunder Bay and have seen how run down and how many people are leaving the region you'd vote for someone who actually meets the demands of the city and the people. The liberals have pretty much ruined the city and made tax rates sky rocket.

The next best thing other than a Conservative or maybe even a NDP riding in Thunder Bay would be to join the upper tip of Minnesota if that's possible! Anything would be better then the Liberals!

Better push the NDP then, Super_39. The Conservatives won't do any more for you than the Liberals. They'll likely do even less, actually. Their track record is one of being anti-union, anti-worker, and anti-social program. You live in a place that depends heavily of seasonal labour, manual labour, and union jobs to drive the economy.
