Not to be a downer but the conversation gradually shifted from the issues surrounding the hyper sexualisation of women to sexy women and sex wit women in general which is really the essence of the issue at hand being that women are under incredible duress to function in any environment asexually.

Sort of stepping back from the trees an seeing the forest so to speak.

Okay Dad, we won't talk about the fun stuff anymore. ;)

At least we got some input from the women.

Enthusiastically even. Lol.

In all seriousness though Grain, I'm not sure the incredible duress exists to the level everyone claims it does. Maybe on Mad Men, but not so much in the here and now. I am a very independent, very empowered woman who has never resembled a Victoria's Secret Model. I've never felt pressure from any man to be something I'm not and frankly I don't see that many women who do. Now I'm not suggesting that it's completely non-existent, just that what does exist simply exists on a superficial level. Sure, some people if you scratch the surface all you get is more surface, but most people have more depth than that. We may not see it publicly, we may not see it demonstrated in groups, but it's there.

Isn't the 'perfect body' in the eye of the beholder? I know what I like
in the 'perfect body' and it isn't the underfed models from a handful
of years back. I think things are becoming more realistic all the time.

The one on the right is going in the right direction, and the one on the left at 5'2"
in height I'd call 'Twelve' (not on a scale of 1-10, but due to her age).

I really don't think your grasping the magnitude of the issue. Let's take a step back and look at little girls. It is an absolute fact that little girls are being indoctrinated with the concept of being a Career Barbie from the benign like Toddlers and Tiaras to the far more disturbing sexy preteen Halloween costumes on every Walmart hanger. From advertising to TV shows surly the sexualisation of young prepubescent girls in our society hasn't escaped you?

That is the micro portion of the issue and sets the foundation for objectification of women in general. The macro is the end result where most girls and women who are attractive and of a healthy weight in surveys are still unhappy with their bodies, their weight and their appearance. This objectification of women plays a big role in confidence and self image problems which also leads to shame and hightened anxiety levels along with some levels of sexual dysfunction.

While you feel you have escaped the cultural conditioning I'm pretty sure if you look deeply at yourself you'll find you have not.

So, from what I am reading, you and your wife really fu cked up when it came to raising your kids. Since, realistically, you and her are the ultimate authority on what they learn. No one else. Or are you one of these parents that go around blaming everyone else.

Back in the 1980s while in high school (in Ontario under economic exile thanks to the Liberals) I was a volunteer with an ARC Industry which is an adult rehabilitation centre that deals with the retarded so I have some experience in dealing with the mentally handicapped yet sometimes your assessments still surprise me so at this point I'm just going to nod and tell you how proud I am you can count to potato now.

You are blaming others for what kids are taught. Are you not? For my wife and I, WE decided what our kids were taught and how they were taught. They were OUR kids, after all. When there were conflicting views with what they were seeing, we explained it to them. Blaming Victoria Secret, or TV, or the media, or anyone else for what kids ultimately believe is passing the buck. Just admit that you didn't do a very good job when it came to raising your kids.
