Personal Sound Amplifiers (PSA)
Hearing aids are very expensive, typically from $3000 to $6000 a pair.
But some people might postpone wearing them, for many year.
I describe this alternative at my university website:

Hearing aids prices are one of the biggest scams on earth. Cost a couple of bucks to make and the rest is a complete ripoff.

I know this because I designed audiometers for aural testing years ago and got to see what went into the hearing aids. Since then electronic technology has advanced exponentially so they should be about $4.99 retail!
