Bottom line. They had to go. Changing up your Government every few years LEFT OR RIGHT is good for the Country.

I'm not Right Wing. I'm just Right.

He set the precedent and it seemed to work for him....but as soon as Mulroney does it, he is ruining the country, but Trudeau is exalted for his social liberal policies...I don't get it.

We Canadian's often would rather be told what we want to hear rather than the truth. IE: Joe Clark loses vote of confidence because he forsees a huge debt and wants to raise gas prices.

Solution: Trudeau comes back, lies and raises gas prices higher that Clark proposed.

I could go on and on but I won't.

History speaks for itself.

I agree about changing the government.

I have said before that no party should be in power for more than two terms. As soon as they reach a comfort level they start to self-destruct. Maybe we can blame Bulroney for destroying the only serious opposition party.

Well blame could be put on Preston Manning, but the real blame lies with the voter and especially the non-voter.

It is true.....we had to reinvent ourselves and we took a hit. It didn't help though that Chrétien said he would scrap the GST and not sign the free trade agreement...but that is another entire thread.

It's Bush's fault

Personally, I would rather blame Nixon. They did throw him out and blaming him would be neater.

When Mr Martin became the leader of the I was excited. Here was the man that turned around government spending, gave us surpluses, and began to pay off the debt. Unfortunately, while he made one hell of a Finance Minister, he made a craptacular PM. It wasn't all his fault, JC didn't really help when he kept denying everything. Jean is bitter, angry old man. If he was at all loyal to his party he would have taken the fall for adscam. Instead he left Mr Martin to fend for himself and take the blame for it all.

I don't think that Martin was a first rate PM, but not everything that happened was his fault.

The fact of the matter is people got tired of hearing Paul Martin say, "The fact of the matter is".

Did you ever consider that it might be your fault?

I'm damned angry that some people (not me) would take advantage of the Canadian Taxpayers money and use it for their (not mine)own personal gain.

Good day Sir

You mean like teachers and GM workers demanding their health care for free? Ya, I know what you mean.

You mean Trudeau...

Some people consider Trudeau's economic policies to have been a weak point. Inflation and unemployment marred much of his term. When Trudeau took office in 1968 Canada had a debt of $18 billion, when he left office in 1984, that debt stood at $200 billion - an increase of 1100%

Thank you Jay, it is always amazing to me how many people think that deficit financing and the debt started with Mulroney. Many financial people consider the increase in the debt during the Mulroney years to be the interest on the debt, as opposed to actually increasing the debt by spending. I don't know enough about it to comment, but I do know for a fact that Trudeau and John Turner, the finance minister, started and continued deficit financing.
