Pacific tsunami warnings cancelled

Tsunami advisories were issued then cancelled Saturday on both sides of the Pacific after a powerful magnitude 8.2 earthquake rocked the ocean floor off Japan.

Whew! That's a relief. The firsr time I ever heard the word ''tsunami'' was around 1962 when there was an earthquake in Alaska. Parts of a certain town were never fixed and railroad tracks from that time remain under water!

Let's hope we will soon have the technology to avert all future disasters from seaquakes and other such catastrophes.
