Stephen Harper[/url]]Mr. Speaker, I can explain the difference. The climate change agenda is principally about carbon dioxide, which is not a pollutant. The government is also concerned with pollutants such as nitrous oxides, sulphur dioxides and other organic compounds. There are differences and that is the difference.

I guess it depends on who you listen (pdf) to, but at least we know where Professor Tinkerputt is taking his cues from.

Did you expect anything different from a party that is run by oil executives from Alberta.

Alberta - oil- Conservatives

Texas - oil- Republicans.

They don't and will never care about the environment, especially when they try to hire scientists to say the things they want told, and when that is hard to do, especially now they act dumb or blame someone else, ie. Kyoto. And Liberals in Canada.

Oxygen is a pollutant. As soon as it appeared on the scene, fires started breaking out....horrible stuff.

Your dealing with something that can warm the planet by as much as 5 degrees celcius it no laughing matter and having stupid oil-based people in Canada and America doesn't help.

We've already peaked in oil supplies in 2004 so what's the point in listening to these people anymore as it is going to get harder and harder to find oil.

More importantly sustainable industry just like good old Bush.

And you can have sustainable industry through the use of Wind power, 30 to 40% of Germany is run by wind power now and do they seem to be having a problem economically, no.

I guess from one point of view

carbon dioxide is neccessary for any plant life to survive. As mammals, we require a certain amount of carbon dioxide in the air we breath to keep us breathing.

The problem starts when we have a little too much CO2 in the atmosphere and we trap heat that normally would be dissipated back into space. This makes the polar ice melt and causes environmentalists to panic and politicians to change the subject.

So it's harder to find oil? Sounds like the problem will solve itself.

If you can get away with saying half of the crazy shit you say; I will laugh at what I want to.

People are oil based? I thought they were water based.

I'm still waiting for the ice age they were predicting. That's the real problem.

That's kind of the point. From at least one point of view "get in power and start asking around" constitutes a "very thorough policy" as well.

Carbon dioxide is not a pollutant. It is a naturally occuring gas. I guess if it is a problem, hell, lets just get rid of those CO2 producing plants, that'll fix the problem.

I wonder why no one ever mentions that Manitoba and Ontario are one and two in the world in the production of lead pollutants? Has to do with the old emission producing factories, something that I guess Ontario and Manitoba have a lot of. Lead pollution will kill you, but no one wants to discuss that issue.

Seriously, the whole problem is that Kyoto is very often confused with pollution, so now the Kyoto supporters have reached the conclusion that even elements necessary to live are pollutants and must be cut back or eliminated. They are two separate issues, folks, and Kyoto does nothing to stop pollution, and according to some, even less for emissions. Proof? The US did not sign on and their emissions increased much less than good old Canada, which is signed on to Kyoto. If we are going to take a lesson, surely we should take it from the people whose emissions are either going down, or increasing at a much slower rate than ours. But then, that would fly totally in the face of all the lefty thinking on Kyoto, which is nothing more than a money transfer scheme anyway. By the way, has anyone even seen one of these "credits" we are supposed to be buying, and if so, where does it fit on some emitting problem? No one has answered this question, and I have raised it on many occasions. What do we get when we buy credits? And how are these magical credits supposed to reduce emissions in Canada? And what does, say, Russia, do with the money we give them for these magical things? Run laughing at us idiots all the way to the bank, thats what.

Give Harper time, he has done quite well in the first four months. In another three, who knows what magical things he will come up with. 8)

Specious and disingenuous, and so is the PM on this one. Lots of things occur naturally that you wouldn't want in your living room, in the air or on the floor. Anything in too high a concentration, or in the wrong place, can become a pollutant. Hydrogen sulfide is a naturally occurring gas too, it comes out of volcanoes, vents in the sea floor, and sour gas wells all over the world, in fairly large quantities, as well as being produced by rotten eggs, but a pretty low concentration of it in the air you breathe will kill you.

In excess concentrations, carbon dioxide is indeed a pollutant. Pretending otherwise is just a lame attempt to duck the issue.

Hey Five, when the Fiberals were in power there was much more pollutant (verbal and otherwise) than a bit of carbon dioxide.

I didn't see the beaver getting his knuckles rapped for calling the Conservatives a pollutant. Don't get us started off on the wrong foot!!

That wasn't my intention, Hotshot, I was addressing everyone; that's why I started a new paragraph. My apologies if that was unclear. And yes, I agree, during the Thirty-eighth Parliament of Canada, under the previous Government of Canada, the atmosphere in the House of Commons was quite unpleasant (at least I think that's what you were suggesting).

The only thing disingenous around here is the supporters of Kyoto, who use any reason to support their cause. Examples? Too much rain, cause is global warming. Drought, cause is global warming. Too hot, cause is global warming. Too cold, cause is global warming.

Thirty years ago we were headed for an ice age according to the same scientists. Now we are heading to a heat wave. No wonder most don't take this subject seriously anymore.

Yes, Dex, too much of anything is a bad thing, but let's not confuse global warming with pollution. If that was the case, according to the Kyoto supporters who want to go after Alberta on this because of oil production, not useage, Alberta should be the most polluted place on the planet. Last time I checked, we were not even close, yet for Ontario, which produces the vehicles which causes the emissions, the auto industry is exempt. Once again another reason to be skeptical and think that this is nothing more than a political grandstand event.

And what about that lead poisining?
