I hope this means David Frum. We need someone to do a graphic of a beaver kicking him south for good. He is a bad man. Conrad Black too. A few others. Crooks and con artists take off eh!
For the rest of the good hard working, wandering canucks... hey its your home. No problem.

I sure hope no one forgets about "snow birds". If you can afford to spend the winter in the south or some warmer climate do you still get the heat and electricity rebates provided? If you paid your taxes in Canada and supported education and all the other social constructs funded through taxes, you have every right to all the benefits of being a Canadian.

If you have dual citizenship, and you pay for and support Canadian social institutions why would there be any question regarding your right to the benefits proceeding from these investments?

Why would the "papers" you carry be some determining factor in whether or not you're elibible for benefits unfolding from your participation in Canadian taxes?

More government horsepucky being served up to Canadians as "government"...what a crock!

The issue here is that many people who were evacuated held dual citizenship, but were permanent citizens in Lebanon. They didn't pay taxes to our government, and many simply renewes their citizenship every 5 years without even visiting Canada. If my parents were visitng Canada, and had me while they were here, then go back to their country of residence, I am now a dual citizen. I will always be Canadian, regardless of whethor or not I live there. If I choose not to return to Canada, and some tragedy should happen, does Canada bare the responsibility for my safety, simply because I was born in a Canadian hospital?

If you are Canadian, you should have a perfect right to always be Canadian and to enter the country, however that should stop at services if you are not paying into it. There's no way you should live in Bermuda for 8 years, come home once every 6 months for a wekend and still be allowed to get free medical services in Canada. Nor should you expect the Canadian gov. to get you off the island if a hurricanne is comming...

You also must bear some responsibility to the secondary passport you hold. If you remain a citezen of Iran and also have a Canadian passport, you can't complain to Canada if the Iranians hold you for military duty...

I didn't think Canadians had rights to certain services if they lived out of country for a certain amount of time. I know I wouldn't be elligible for free medical immediately upon my return to Canada.

Exactly.

That debacle in Lebanon was a prime example of misguided duty before common sense. As far as I'm concerned, people living in Lebanon on a permanent basis are Lebanese. Canada has no obligation to people who choose to live permanently in other countries. Will the Lebanese government come and save Canadians of Lebanese extraction if some disaster happened in Canada? Don't hold your breath. Tourists are another matter entirely.
