I recently found a site providing riding by riding poll numbers. Liberal "Star candidate" Belinda Stronach is currently well behind CPC candidate Lois Brown.

I've always disliked crossing the floor. This is because, in my view, the candidate is only one part of three factors in any vote for him/her (the party leader, and the political party as a whole, are the other two). When an elected representative crosses the floor, s/he does so in spite of the fact that many of the votes for him/her were probably due to party/party leader as much as it was due to the candidate himself/herself. Indeed, my own view is that if you cross the floor, their should be an immediate by-election, given this fact to a Parliamentary election system.

In Stronach's case, I saw the crossing the floor as particularly vile given her very close relationship with Peter Mackay. Peter Mackay looked absolutely devasted by the crossing for the following few days. Mackay's a good guy, and he never deserved that.

Her relationship with the Hon. Peter McKay should not have any standing on her role in the House of Commons.

As for crossing the floor, she was elected as a Conservative Member with less than a majority of the vote; however, in her riding, the combined NDP and Liberal vote was more than fifty percent. In crossing the floor, she assured that the views of a majority of her constituents were honoured in endeavouring to keep the House of Commons from having been dissolved.

Can you provide the link to that site? Thanks in advance!

I didn't expect she would win the seat again...but the fat lady hasn't sung yet.

I am pleased to hear Stronach is goin' down (so to speak).

Did anyone see the Globe & Mail cartoon a few days ago?

Harper is sitting looking at a piece of paper labeled "Polls" showing him going up and up. Stronach is behind him, cuddled to his back, one hand in his hair, the other on his arms....."can we talk?'

Hilarious......and couldn't have helped Belinda.

No......I've had a deep dislike for Belinda since she conned Ernie Eaves into presenting his budget in a TV studio instead of the legislature. A poke in the eye to the very basics of Parliamentary democracy. Arrogant and stupid. I'm very glad she ain't looking good.

I wonder how Scott Brison is doing?

Five, her relationship with Peter McKay does make her crossing the floor that much more vile. She betrayed him for political opportunism, Five.

She didn't need to cross the floor to keep the House of Commons from having been dissolved. Harper couldn't LITERALLY FORCE her to vote to dissolve the house, Five. She could have stayed Conservative, and simply went against Harper.

Am I right, or am I wrong?

Scott Brison is also currently slated to lose, IIRC.
I'll try to get that site for everybody in a sec.

Just as expected...my riding will probably remain Liberal. They have a pretty strong higher profile guy here...so it doesn't surprise me.

But the good news is he won't win with a majority, so I suspect he will be crossing the floor to support his constituents, and will be a conservative anytime now....

I think both the NDP and the CPC have said they would propose that anyone crossing the floor should sit as an independant or (NDP hold a by election. Considering the cost I'd go for sitting as an independant. There should also be rules about bribing an MP to cross the floor, no cabinet positions may be taken until another election.

As a Tory, I was embarrassed she ran for the leadership of the party in the first place. She wasn't qualified to run Magna and she isn't qualified to be a cabinet minister, let alone by Prime Minister.

I watched Stephen Harper's speech during the roll out of the Conservative Platform this morning.

Spectacular! I loved his intro to the platform. He said "for the past few weeks we have told you what we will do and now I want to tell you why."

His "why" spoke of the values that have been long lost in Canada.

During his discussion on Integrity, I thought, "Paul Martin wants this election to be a discussion on values, well, here they are."

I'll take the Conservative values as articulated by Stephen Harper this morning, hands down.

Supposedly, countries get the government they deserve; but maybe this time Canadians can get a better Prime Minister than they deserve.

Mackay's a good guy? Really?

Let's see: he promised, in writing, not to merge the PC party with the Alliance, and then did exaclty that. Not particularly a nice guy on his work side, then.

He dumped his long-standing fiance, for Belinda Stronach, after many stories started about them. He is, apparently, well known for never dumping one girlfriend until he had another one on the go already.

So I don't feel sorry for his sorry ass at all. Dickheads get what they deserve.

I'm not a big fan of MacKay either. I don't think he is a bad guy, but I don't think he is qualified to lead the CPC. His behaviour when he signed the deal during the PC convention was a result of PANIC. He paniced when he already had the leadership sewn up. Not exactly a cool head.

I'm not unhappy with Harper, but when he goes, I had big hopes for Chuck Strahl.....(Sigh) I guess his cancer has canceled that idea.

I wasn't aware of the personal life part of that. He seemed like a good guy on TV, but I guess I was wrong on him. What goes around comes around, I guess...
