The Troubles was basically a British civil war between those who wanted Northern Ireland to be unified with the Republic of Ireland (Republicans) and those who wanted it to remain part of the UK (Loyalists). It lasted 1968 to 1998.

Now an inquiry is underway concerning the 1998 Omagh Bombing when an IRA (Irish Republican Army) car bomb killed 29 people in the County Tyrone town.

The Republicans murdered pregnant twins and their mother during the terrorist attack. Two of the victims were Spanish - including a 12 year old boy.

The attack came near the end of the conflict in which the Republicans were defeated by the British, but not without much loss of life on both sides.
