Don't know how many but hey, it's the thought that counts.

Since some 'ordinary' letters from Barry have turned up for sale by the recipients, you'd think someone might have already showed-off their Obama-check. But that's for the 'checkers' to investigate.

It's decent he did it but a shame he couldn't keep the act of kindness anonymous as he said he did. Then again, it is election season.

Anyway, although I find this dude a prestentious arsehole, credit where it is due.

A few times during his presidency, Obama admitted, he had written a personal check or made a phone call on the writer’s behalf, believing that it was his only way to ensure a fast result. “It’s not something I should advertise, but it has happened,” he told me. Many other times, he had forwarded letters to government agencies or Cabinet secretaries after attaching a standard, handwritten note that read: “Can you please take care of this?”

Seems Reagan did as well. Difference was he kept it quiet until he left office.

Interestingly, President Ronald Reagan did the same thing Obama has done. In one instance, "When Reagan discovered that a woman he had sent one hundred dollars to hadn't cashed the check because she wanted to save it as a memento, he told her to deposit it and made sure his accountant sent the canceled check back to her," James Sutherland wrote in a biography of the former president.
Reagan, though, did not say that he had written those checks until he was out of office, and some commenters are saying Obama should have done the same, if only to avoid the scrutiny that is bound to come when Saslow's book is released.
