Emotional New Zealand Warriors players embraced family members prior to leaving the country for the National Rugby League's (NRL) resumption.
After being given the green light by the Australian Border Force, Warriors players and support staff departed Auckland for the northeast New South Wales city of Tamworth on Sunday afternoon.
Hooker Nathaniel Roache was unable to catch the flight after waking up feeling unwell on Sunday and failing the screening test. Roache didn't travel to Auckland Airport. Wing David Fusitu'a also didn't travel with the team for family reasons and will join up with the squad in a week's time.
The Warriors will be based in Tamworth, known as the country music capital of Australia, where they will train as a group during their 14-day isolation period, ahead of the NRL's much anticipated return.
Warriors players arrived at Auckland Airport wearing facemasks and in their own vehicles as they pulled up at a private facility near the runway to board their charter flight. They cut emotional figures, farewelling family members with Adam Blair pictured hugging son Taika in one photo posted on social media.

NRL Grand Final runners-up in 2011.

I still think Sydney Roosters will win it again this year.

I like how the NRL Grand Final teams are less predictable than the Super League grand final teams. Only 4 clubs have won the Super League Grand Final, as of 2019 - Leeds Rhinos (8 times), St. Helens (6), Wigan Warriors (5), and Bradford Bulls (3).

Sydney Roosters are the World Champions, having beaten St. Helens in the grandest of grand finals earlier this year.
