I am French but am I trying to pollute the district I am in IAMCanadian. Your point of view is incorrect, because where I live there is a huge french community but they don't try to act or exclude any English or other communities. So I have to say in this post you are wrong.

-----------------

I've been to a few clinics in this city, and while language has never been an issue, I will say overall attitudes of the admin and nursing staff really sucks. So, using language as an excuse to be an ass doesn't surprise me.

In Ottawa, the Monfort hospital is for the french community. You should have seen what happened when the province or city or whomever had it pegged for closing. You'd think someone burned a picture of a important french person. Outrage, protest blah, blah.

I believe it is to preserve the French language - which France has been valiantly trying to do for years -

On the contrary, I believe it is to obtain unfair advantages over other members of our multi-cultural society reserved for themselves. One more redundant dying language, like the thousands that have come and gone throughout history, is simply a convenient excuse to feel superior and sounds less racist than a colour of skin.

Sounds very much like Fascism to me "Glory to the mother tounge" and all that jazz.

What would you call the Anglophiles that constantly ridicule French people in Canada and did what they could to hold these people down for 100 years?

You make it sound like Canada has treated French Canadians as White Niggers. I don't recall anything in Canadian history about French people being forced to the back of any bus.

The only thing that comes close is Quebec's no english laws - but those work the other way around to make non-francos the white niggers in Quebec.

The French language lost naturaly because it is an inferior language for communicating with and without anyone discriminating against it, and so has every other language on the whole planet as we all naturally work towards eliminating all language barriers in the best interests of mankind to keep up with the ever accelerating pace of change.

The seriousness of this incident is compounded by the woman's pre-existing medical condition.

If she had collapsed and died on her way out of the clinic would there be mobs throwing mollotov cocktails at the place?

A mob of united non-franco Canadians? II think not.

But if the tables where turned you can bet the Francos would be rioting all across Canada.

I'd be off to confer with a Lawyer that specializes in Constitutional Law. It was discrimination and Jersey hit the nail on the head. Canada needs to rethink Bilinqualism, Quebec is but one province in this country and I am tired of dancing to their tune. Regarding the French language, French in Vancouver is as useless as tits on a bull, now any Asian launguage would be helpful. In the Prairies, Polish, German, Dutch, a little pocket of French. Ontarie, the Holy Grail of employment for Bilingual people. Federal Employees, of course they are need to maintain the bilingualisms of the rest of Canada. In the Maritimes some French, some Galic, German, Newfoundland--lingo/dialect.

your still over generalizing Iamcanadian. This was one incident and you are trying to paint a picture that this is happening all the time and it's wide spread. I've not bought into this and I doubt I ever will. Living in Toronto people are turned away all the time to a clinic where they have people who understand there native tongue. How Can an english receptionist help some chiness woman who refuses to speak english or can't comunicate properly in english?

Nope I'm not buying into this anti-french propaganda thank you.

edit:
You should read up on early to modern Canadian history on Quebec and how the French Catholics were treated.

Canada owes Francos nothing more that it owes every Canadian equally regardless of when or where they immigrated from.

This is a pervasive problem with the French Canadian everywhere across Canada used to take advantage of the rest of Canadians that don't speak or even care for the french language or culture.

It is Cultural Discrimination and Aparthiede no different that what was practiced in South Africa.

How many people are aware that 20% of Quebec's population does not speak French?

I wonder what kind of discrimination they must be suffering and we don't even hear about it because they fear from retribution from their neighbours?

What about the fact that only 7 Million Canadians speak french out of 32 Million. With 25 Million Canadians not speaking any French and with French Canadians only being 20% of Canada's whole population, how can it be justified that in today's closing ceremonies at the Olimpics the world got the impresion that Canada is primarily a French Speaking country.

Something is wrong with this country.
