RE: No boys named Jesus,

Maybe it's simply because we have no imaginations, so we assume that the second coming of Christ will also be named Jesus, and as a result, we don't want any Jesus because of what will follow.
Or maybe we feel the name is sacred, and it takes away from the greatness of Christ to name people after him, kinda like drawing the prophet muhammed.
It's most likely that the name isn't used for the same reason other names for men like Marion, Terry, and Jauceline, are no longer common boys names.
I don't think it really matters either way.

Again, that's culture-centric, because the Spanish
don't seem to follow that model.

But calling my dog Bob, seems as ticklish as calling
the 2nd coming of Jesus, the 2nd coming of Bob formerly known as Jesus.

And maybe our species-imperative, egocentric behavior
won't realize that my Dog Bob is the 2nd coming of Bob,
formerly known as Jesus.

Uh oh.

He's looking at me.

He wants to go out.

NOW !!!

And it's snowing now.

Interesting point gopher, I never knew that. Joshua may mean Jesus in an academic way, but not in a popular way. Joshua and Jesus are different words that mean different things to the public and conjure up unique images in our minds. Jesus is in a category/class of its own.
