There should be one basic requirement and criteria to participate in the games. You should be there for the opening ceremonies and the closing ceremonies. Win or lose. Anyone who can't make that committment prior to arriving shouldn't be there. It's a disgrace to see players absent. It's embarrassing. It detracts from the spirit of the games.
