Meanwhile, curfew-imposing and anti-vaxxer taxer Quebec Premier Francois Legault is riding high with a 55% approval rating.

Angus Reid Institute on Monday released results of polling that asked Canadians what they think of their provincial leaders and how they’ve responded to the Omicron wave.

Ford, who faces a general election on June 2, was pegged with an “all-time low” approval rating of 30% from a high of 69% in May 2020.

“Ontario delayed the reopening of schools by two weeks after the winter break, continuing a pattern of closures that are wearing on the province’s parents,” Angus Reid said in a news release. “Children in Ontario have spent more time in online school throughout the pandemic than other students across the country, as parents express a desire for a more balanced approach leaning towards keeping schools open for in-class learning.”

Business owners and workers face renewed restrictions while health-care workers coped with surging hospitalizations, the pollster noted.

The majority of Ontarians polled gave the government a thumb’s up for the vaccination campaign but 73% believed it did a poor job of distributing tests.

“All of this likely influences the negative assessment Ontarians offer Ford on his handling of the pandemic,” the poll statement says. “Three-in-10 (29%) say he has done well on his approach to COVID-19, a decline from the two-in-five (42%) who said so in July.”

Ford has repeatedly stated publicly that he needs the federal government to provide more COVID-19 tests.

Ford told CP24 that the people will have a clear choice in the only poll that counts — election day.

Voters can opt for his party, which means a booming economy and jobs, or face an “absolute disaster” with the Liberals or NDP, he said.

“We spent the last close to four years fixing all the problems that we faced when we went into office and we’re going to continue moving forward, focusing, making sure people are very safe, healthy,” Ford said. “It’s very simple — who do you trust with your money?”

The Ontario premier still polled higher on his approval rating than Alberta Premier Jason Kenney at 26% and Manitoba Premier Heather Stefanson at 21%.

Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston was on top nationally with an approval rating of 57%, followed by Legault.

Angus Reid Institute surveyed 2,022 adults, members of its forum, online between Jan. 7-12, and a comparative survey would carry a plus or minus 2% margin of error, 19 times out of 20.

The full self-commissioned poll can be found at angusreid.org .

Ontario Conservatives are diet liberals, just like their federal counterparts.
