just can't

just can't let this thread end on that phrase - GO um who?

hope your right about the referring, it's very frustrating watching a hockey game with so many power plays.

GO CANUCKS CANUCKS CANUCKS CANUCKS CANUCKS CANUCKS CANUCKS CANUCKS

Give me a 5 on 5 rodeo any day to half a game of perimeter non-skating powerplays.

5 on 5

I spend much of a hockey game anxously waiting for 5 on 5

and then when it comes it is very exciting, but only lasts for about 2 minutes, remind you of

anything.!

Then back to the boring power plays again.

Oh well, I have started hoping for the refs to miss infractions so that we can keep on playing.

(oh good, he missed that one, oh my god there's a trip, oh oh good he missed it)

Those refs have the best eyes in the world, they see things that I can't find on a replay, maybe
our replays should be in slow motion.

Thankfully most fans like fast hockey and those who like the old clutch and grab style are now in the significant minority. Along with Ron Maclean.

Standing around on powerplays doing perimeter passes is fast hockey? Since when?

Agree on the penalties...

Kreskin... I do agree with your take on the penalty watching, it's not much to look at. Sort of makes you look forward to the commercial.

But I would maintain that it had to be done to tidy up the game, or to salvage the game perhaps.

I'd love to see the refs stand back and let 'em play hockey. But what had been going on was closer to greco-roman grappling.

In order to give 'em room to play hockey, we must enforce the style of game to be played.

What we're seeing now is the transition to the new game, not the game it will be. I'm with you though, some of the call are hard to stomach. You have to love however, the calls for the ballerina dives for unsportsman-like.

Go Oil. Battle of Alberta tonight.

Hey! Another three weeks or so, we can watch the world junior hockey championships, that are in my estimation, the best hockey in the world. These young guys give their all every shift. It is too bad we don't get more of the junior games. The juniors want to be drafted so their work ethic great. The Canadian world junior team would likely kick some but among the NHL bottom feeding teams.

Ugly with a capital "Ugh!"

Can I have the envelope please? And the award for the most unsightly pro uniform goes to...

Yuk yuk. For your enjoyment Talloola. Don't worry I'll find some freaky oiler memorabilia for your enjoyment too. Phew, that's a noisy jersey!

It isn't getting any prettier

Now that's a mullet!

Well the Oilers aren't getting any better looking that's for sure... though there's a science I think to the funnier and uglier your hockey teams is, the more likely they'll go far in the playoffs. That must have been last year's good fortune. :laughing7: Now our pretty-boy (the last of the non-helmet wearers)is behind the bench. HA!

Don Taylor sportsnet/team1040 actually wants that design brought back, only in different colors,
blue/green/white i think. I can't do it, the old egg yolk yellow ones were so sickening, so I don't
think I could agree. I gagged too many times with the old ones.

But mostly importantly it's the guy in the uniform that really matters, so our CANUCKS are tops
in that catagory.

I'll be watching battle of Alberta tonight on my nhl. centre ice, love it, don't care who wins, just
have a good game., calgary playing better now.

Isbister now a ranger, he sure has moved around a lot.

enjoy the game

Skilled players can now use their speed to skate into the offensive zone. Dump and chase hockey played in the neutral zone was painfully slow to watch. But the new NHL has proved popular with the vast majority of fans so we certainly won't be seeing a return to the soccer on ice that your and Ron Maclean prefer.

good to watch

none of us want the old hockey, we all agree that clutching and grabbing, and inhibiting talented

players to be able to do "their thing" is not the right way to play. We all love the speed and being

able to see the great skaters "skate" and move at a very fast pace.

If, at the end of the day, players can't ever touch another player with his stick, or his arm or his hand,

we will end up with a "non contact" hockey. I have even notice that penalties are given out for real

good hard body checks, at times, and I also have notice that players are starting to take exception

to "being" hit, and they're playing partners are coming to their rescue, AND, it was just a good hard

body check, "that is part of hockey", I love it, and it is a great part of the game.

I hated the old hockey, as coaches had taught their players to stop the good players at all costs,

with any tactic they could muster up, good, that's gone, but now, we have to make sure that the

grit and toughness stays in the game, along with all the good things that have happened as well.

Lets not lose that "mix".

hello!!!!!

has everyone abandoned our team but me?

we probably aren't going to make the play offs, but lets encourage this team all year, as they work so
hard, and it will be interesting at the end of the year to see, which---Canucks/Edmonton/Calgary/Colorado
make it into the 8th spot. I won't be surprised if we don't make it, but I will watch for them to bring
in a couple of "goal scorers" for next year, and along with the hard work we now have, that will improve
this team, and next year they will be much more competetive, it is a rebuild, we just don't have enough
goal scorers, Naslund and the twins are exciting and talented, and I love watching them play, but they
can't do it all, we need some secondary scoring.

Jessie Schultz looks promising, hope they keep him on the team, he has a nose for the net, and I like
Kesler and Burrows, but they never find the net, I thought they might eventually, but I think they will
just be hard grinders, so be it.

They played fine tonight, as they were up against the best team in the NHL, I believe, although it will
be interesting to see Anaheim play Buffalo

If it wasn't for a couple of very untimely penalties, and two stupid penalties by Cook, we could easily
have come out of this game with 1 point.

I felt sorry for Luongo when he shot the puck over the glass, his decision to shoot it down the ice was a
good one, it was a good time to do it, he just "missfired", and his body language immediately after
said it all I think the puck was rolling around when he hit it.

For me, winning isn't everything, effort, defence, and a goal every once in awhile would help, along
with good coaching is important. I can enjoy them this year, and wait for better things next.
