Ok..this is very adhoc add..I am watching CTV right now. & I am too lazy to link anything.

But general background....Liberals came out with an attack add today in the papers pairing Gilles Duceppe and Stephen Harper as buddys. Problem is that the pic they used was them sitting together at a holoucoust memorial...which is prearranged seating. Tackkky...

So thinking back to when the PC's did an attack add on Chretien..implying about his polio....
...
...

Could this be the type of add that would harm the Liberals so much that they lose?

What impact in general do you feel attack adds have in voting patterns?

And finally..what the hell were the Libs thinking??? LOL.

we always see boneheaded propaganda from the parties.

the populace is so desensitised to it that it usually just passes on by. are people that cynical of politicians? look at how lowly they are viewed in polls.

it could backfire though. it would make more sense for the libs to be ripping into harper's promises given they don't hold much weight.

i don't think the liberals will lose the election though (although, as they say the only poll that counts is on election day). Watching Harper get power would remind me of the bush/gore election. Has canada become so dysfunctional and stupified as the americians? (no offence to any americians)

RE: Negative campaign add

I am surprised though how well Harper dominated the first part of the campaign. Although we all think it unlikely, i would not be surprised to see the Cons win..even if a small majority. He's done surprisingly well and even if you don't agree with what he's saying, he has set nearly every agenda item for discussion during this campaign.

But its too early to say for sure. The second half will be the true tone of the campaign.

In regards to negative adds, i could care less. However, i do care if a party makes a deliberat bonehead move...it makes me question their judgement..and when i start questioning their judgement based on how they campagin...than it leads to other judgement calls.

I sure wish Jack Layton would start talking "angry" like most Canadians are.

I can't handle this "feel-good" campaign and "honorable" campaign.

It's time to get down and dirty! It's time for Jack Layton to begin rubbing Martin/Harper noses into the pile of sh?t they have us all in.

I wanna see anger mixed with sincerity! Outrage! A promise of renewal!

Jack Layton is not running for the priesthood.

And a bit off topic ....

Everyday we hear about Israel on the news. One would think that the world revolved around Israel considering how much news time they get.

However ..... the word "Jew" has never been mentioned during this campaign. Howcome Canada's support of Israel and their policies is news everyday except during campaign stops?

RE: Negative campaign adds....could it backfire against the

The Liberals have let Harper do the majority of the agenda setting at the beginning. They know that the majority of voters pay attention to elections within the last week or so. I would speculate that most undecided voters do not know their choice until the day of the election.

So why bother doing heavy campaigning until it really matters.

As for the attack adds I haven't seen the ad, but I know that shock value is the only true attention grabber. The Liberals are the masters at hitting the emotional buttons of Canadians, while the Conservatives and NDP are a little hit or miss.

Here is some info on them:

http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNe...s_051222/20051222?s_name=election2006&no_ads=

Yet, negative ads can be a positive thing if they are within reason and are open criticisms of the target's platform or ability of the leader. Anything personal about the ad will surely backfire. (Kim Campbell's "Face of the Prime Minister" ads attacking Jean Chretien based on his facial paralysis.) Big Back Fire.
