22% of the global nickel market isn't high? that would have to mean Canada has something like 63% of the global market to not set off the 35% rule...

which I think is a crock anyways. monopolies aren't the problem. oligarchies are.

The nickle mines owned by Inco and Falconbridge are both inside and outside of Canada, so it wouldn't effect nickle prices in Canada anymore than anywhere else in the world.

The biggest producer of nickle in the world is Norilsk.

did anyone else notice Jack's call to assemble the stakeholders is rather reminiscint of that Swedish model it was suggested here he should learn from?

maybe he already has. a thing or two, anyways.

I live in Timmins Ontario and our biggest concern is that we have several small mines here and around Timmins and our biggest company is of course Falconbridge and they have a smelter that right now all the little mines can use on a regular basis for a price of course. If this merger happens then Falconbridge will most likely because it will have the monopoly on the mining industry they will have no interest in sharing its multi billion dollar smelter and therefore we will lose 90 percent of our little mines. In Timmins this is beyond who controls Falconbridge but how many jobs will be lost.
