There has been patronage appointments in every society since the dawn of creation.
In one sence of the word it makes sense, yes I said it makes sense. The reason is
if you are running a government, you want to appoint people who are in tune with the
ideology of the party in power to carry out the plan as you saw it in the first place.
Secondly politics runs on the rewarding of those who win the day. If your party wins,
usually the people who are of like mind get the appointments to the new government
direction positions.
Putting an end to patronage is like saying you will get rid of liquor, or prostitution.
To suggest such a noble thing will have little effect and no results because aside form the
hot air of the issue not one party in the House will want to end it. Not one Federal or
provincial.
