How did they make a big mess of education? The school boards DID close schools - TRUE, But there was low enrollment in those schools!

What the BCTF FAILS to mention is that NEW schools have been opened all over the Province!

What you failed to mention is thanks Gordon and his band of thieves schools, school boards, PAC Groups or even teachers can set the classroom sizes and the hours a school can operate. Thanks to Bill 28


Why is Health Care in a mess? Becuase the HEU whines that contracting out laundry and janitorial is BAD? Only people who work in a UNION can do a good job? NO. Its not a matter of throwing more and more money at the problem, its a matter of BEING MORE EFFICIENT!

It has very little to do with the HEU at this point, trivializing HEU as janitors and house keeping displays your lack of knowledge around this issue or your wish to sweep it under the carpet. HEU also has Long Term Care Aids, Licensed Practical Nurses, Lab Techs, under their auspice.

The official election campaign is about to start, and Premier Gordon Campbell and his ministers are giving out money like there is no tomorrow. There’s money for sports stadiums, and money for parks, and money for new housing projects for seniors, and new health research projects that, it is to be hoped, eventually benefit everyone. It would seem that before we voters actually go to the polls on May 17, there won’t be a community left in British Columbia that hasn’t benefited somehow from this tidal wave of newfound money.

JIm the information really isn't that hard to find! Even if the equalization payments stem from over 2 years ago (which they do not) the liberals would be responsible for the payments we in BC have been receiving for the last 2 years. Have a look at this link - scroll down to a nice little chart showing the equalization payments since 93-94.

Now it's not too difficult to see where you were going with your post considering you are one of the lemmings out there who still goes on ad-nauseam about the “financial mess” that was the 90's BC NDP. That being the case, JIm, note the NDP years! It’ll be interesting to see if we qualify again next year. I say this because the purpose of equalization payments is to ensure that every Canadian has access to adequate social services – it is NOT a transfer from the “rich” provinces to the “poor” provinces. With the gutting the social services courtesy of gordo et al., does that mean we will continue to be eligible until a socially responsible government is reinstated?

I know poor Jim, this will be hard to swallow; what with your suffering from the “ostrich” syndrome (i.e. head in the sand – if I can’t see it, it doesn’t exist).

NDP ANSWER: A one-size-fits-all class size policy that split up siblings. The NDP’s rigid made-in-Victoria policy led to absurd situations where schools could not add one single student to a class that had reached its limit – even if that meant the student was forced to bus across town.

Under the NDP, there was a ban on parent volunteers in schools.

Nursres got a raise (Nurses in B.C. received a 23.5% salary increase in their last contract, and are now among the highest paid in Canada.) - I agree with that - What we were talking about was privatization of cleaning services at the hospitals - which I think is a good thing. Lets put our health care dollars to their maximum ability! If you think that cleaning staff should be paid $20/hour than YOU pay them - I sure as hell don't want MY TAX DOLLARS WASTED!

From BC Liberals Website:

NDP SAYS "By 2007, under Gordon Campbell's health care plan the province will see a net reduction of 565 long-term care beds."

WRONG.

FACT: Since 2001 we have built more than 4,000 new, replacement or upgraded residential care and assisted living units for seniors.

FACT: By the end of 2006, there will be a net increase of more than 2,700 beds for seniors.

FACT: By 2008, we will have achieved our goal of adding 5,000 new beds for seniors across the spectrum of assisted living, residential care and independent housing.

Do you think I belive that every decision that the Liberals have made have been the right ones? NO.

Do I dissagree with the incorrect information being spread around this forum as fact? YES.

As for Americans, they are our closest neighbours, and if you think that george bush represents every american, then I think you should go talk to Michael Moore (he's an American).

It seems to me that the main area of disagreement in this forum boils down to how our tax dollars should be spent.

I think we should run an efficient government and spend dollars where they need to be spent, pay down our debt, and finally reduce our taxes.

You think we should hand out lucrative contracts to Unions, spend money now, tax the rich, and burry our heads in the sand when debt collectors look to our BC for some debt re-payment. Oh well..what do you care, let your kids worry about that mess down the road!

I honeslty don't give a shit about whats going on in BC. But you contradict information with information given by the party in question. You're putting sticks in your own wheels. Get n independant source to confirm this, and people might actually agree with you.

At least I post where I source my information. You are just making vague statements. Post your sources and maybe I'll go look at the sites. As for you being from Montreal - have you ever been inside a BC hospital? then how do you know what state they are in? Have you ever been inside a bc school? And as for you not caring about whats happening in BC - if you don't care - why are you in this forum?

Isn't there a forum about Quebec separating somewhere in here? :roll:

I'm just about ready to vote for whoever promises to take the G-D toll off the Coquihalla Highway - damn near 20 years since it was built, and we're still paying for it.

Islanders got a Cadillac Highway and never paid a dime in Tolls. Go figure...

The Island Highway was built on sweetheart deals and came in way over budget.

Who was responsible for that again?

I agree on the toll... but even still, it's worth the $10 in the time saved, and it's a well-maintained highway.
