The CAW has voted to sever it's long lasting and traditional links with the New Democratic Party of Canada after the fall out during the last federal election.

The NDP which is the only real Labour party in Canada has been the voice of the CAW in provincial and federal parliments. However policies of the Democrats have changed in the last 10 years and the enviromental concerns of the party are not always in the interests of auto workers. During the federal election the leader of the CAW officially endorsed and supported Liberal candidates. As a member of the New Democratic and an orginizxation which supports the NDP the president was in violation of the Democrats constitution by supporting other parties and even though the federal NDP and it's leader thanks the leader of the CAW for it's help during the election the Ontario NDP with in their rights suspended the leaders membership in the Ontario NDP.

Now some of the old guard in the NDP may see this splite as a weaking of the labour movement in Canada but personally I could care less about the CAW. A corrupt union, representing over paid workers which acts more like orginized crime then anything else. With enviromental policy moving in a different direction in the NDP from the CAW, the NDP will now be free to further their green plateform without fear of losing support or funding from CAW.

In the end the CAW had little effect on the last federal election and perhaps lost Paul Martin a few close races with Buzz's moronic stances on Canadian issues. Perhaps I can only hope that the CAW and the Liberal party come together in an alliance. Perhaps that act would finally push the NDP in front of the Liberal party, well that and perhaps Bob Rae as the leader of the Liberal party.

One can only hope.

I emailed Buzz Hargrove on this and told him his strategic voting goes against principal. I say good riddens to the CAW. The Harpercrites won't help and if the CAW is lucky enough maybe Gerard Kennedy will let them crawl his way. I'm dissapointed in Buzz's teetering lately.

I've never been a fan of the CAW and the autoworkers. Can even look at my posts from the election to see that. lol.

Being a member of the New Democratic myself, I'm happy to see the CAW leave. I know many of the old guard socialists and labour party supporters may see this as weakening the Democrats, but times have changed. This would have been a big blow to the NDP 20 years ago or more but not anymore. The next 10 or so years will either see the NDP get stronger or see them fade away I think. I'm hoping they will become the big tent, centre left party in Canada.

The Democrats have never needed hyporcrits like Bob Rae and Buzz. If you ask me the Liberals are welcome to have them both!
