State Bar Exam

I hate when stuff like this happens in Alabam..oh wait…

Via BostonMagazine.com:
The head of the state’s bar examiners said Saturday that the board would take a look at protocol, in regards to religious head garments being worn during test-taking, after a Muslim woman was given a note ordering her to remove her hijab, even though she had received consent prior to exam day.

Marilyn Wellington, executive director of the Massachusetts Board of Bar Examiners, toldBoston that the incident during the exam in Springfield last week, when a University of Michigan graduate of Muslim faith was given a hand-written note telling her to place her headscarf underneath her seat to comply with the rules, was “unfortunate” and officials are looking into it. “There was a request made by a proctor that she remove her hijab, and it was a miscommunication,” said Wellington. “At this point, we are very regretful it happened and we are reviewing our procedures to make sure this doesn’t happen again.”

Let us get this straight the hijab is not a religious garment is is part of the custom
that was established long ago. Covering the face of a woman is a man thing that
came later and is not part of the religion itself. We have to know who is taking the
exam and that person must be identifiable. No removal no exam logical to me
Besides this is our country where all should obey the same set of laws not one law
for one group and another set of laws for someone else

It was a scarf. It did not hide her identity, but... she could hide cheat notes under it. Maybe that was the concern of the proctor.

They should have got their policy figured out, and communicated to the candidates, before the exam.

OTH, if these annoyances keep occurring - and they will - in this young woman's legal career, she might decide it's too damn much trouble, just to protect her - probably unpleasant - male relatives from the sight of her *gasp!* naked face.
