In these darkest of times, it appears that a newly discovered threat has arisen plunging all of mankind into a state of catatonic fear from which there is no recovery—a ring!

A Kermit, Texas, fourth-grader named Aiden Steward brought a Hobbit-esque replica of the ring to class, claiming it could make a classmate disappear.

This was perceived by those in charge of the school as "a threat," putting young Mr. Steward in a bit of a predicament, resulting in him actually being removed from school.

As Aiden’s father, Jason tells the NY Daily News:

I assure you my son lacks the magical powers necessary to threaten his friend’s existence. If he did, I'm sure he'd bring him right back.

wow. just wow.

One cannot be too careful, even in New Spain (aka, Texas). After all, the name "Aiden Steward" is an anagram for a pair of words, one of which is "disaster". Propriety prevents me spelling out the other word.

Bless you all!

Something really weird is going on in certain states. Too much breeding between the fundamentalist religious peoples. That or too much Tang.

Texas is a part of the strongly socially conservative, Evangelical Protestant Bible Belt.[12] The Dallas-Fort Worth area is home to three major evangelical seminaries and several of America's largest megachurches, including the Potter's House pastored by T.D Jakes and Prestonwood Baptist pastored by Jack Graham. Houston is home to the largest church in the nation, Lakewood Church, pastored by Joel Osteen. Lubbock, Texas has the most churches per capita in the nation.[12]
In 2000, the religious demographics of Texas were:[13]

Evangelical Protestant – 64.4%.
Roman Catholic – 21.2%
Mainline Protestant – 8.1%
Orthodox – 0.1%
Hindu, Sikhs, Buddhists, Muslim, others; 2.0%
Unclaimed – 4.5%

Between the Evang Protestants, RC, Mainline protestants that's 93.6% of the population.

He's been disciplined a total of 3 times in 6 months. Two of the disciplinary actions this year were in-school suspensions for referring to a classmate as black and bringing his favorite book to school: "The Big Book of Knowledge."

“He loves that book. They were studying the solar system and he took it to school. He thought his teacher would be impressed,” Steward said.

But the teacher learned the popular children’s encyclopedia had a section on pregnancy, depicting a pregnant woman in an illustration, he explained.

There is some strangeness going on in Texas:

Northern Ontario,
I fail to see what the religious demographics that you describe have to do with the decision, you haven't shown that it entered into it at all!

It's just another case of extreme over reaction by a school, there are dozens of others happening every day.

Of course if the purpose is to malign the intelligence of every man, woman and child in an entire state, well then Bravo, well done.

I was just posting the stats for Texas. Interpret them any way you see fit.

I meant the OP. And the thread title.

I didn't read the thread just the title and the OP.

Okay, now I have read the thread, what does religious affiliations have to do with over reacting to a comment from a child and perceiving it as a "threat"?
