More Cdns moved to Quebec than left it

MONTREAL (CP) - For the first time in 30 years, more Canadians moved to Quebec than left the province.

Quebec gained more than 28,000 new residents last year, and lost 27,900 to other provinces, according to Statistics Canada data compiled for the Association for Canadian Studies. The net increase of 118 people is small, but it reverses a trend that saw the province lose 16,000 people in 1998 and 4,000 in 2002.

Association director Jack Jedwab said fewer anglophones and allophones have left the province, due in part because of Quebec's political stability.
