How about constant voting?

Let's change the whole system... We do not hold a relation close enough with monarchy: we do not believe anymore that our government is doing everything it can on many issues. We have the power to elect by provinces, the same number of candidates, professional in their fieild so we would know their clear independant positions on questions relevant to the next mandate.

We are responsible of the path we vote for... Wouldn't you like receiving pamphlets showing ALL of you province candidates in their fields. Writing on their wishes and priorities with standardized questions. We are responsible of our choices and the monarchy part of Canadians doesn't reflect our judgment: so let's first remove it if Canadians vote for it one our dear Elizabeth pass away... Let's have a real debate than, on how we see things.

I think the system I have in mind, may, actually hold the key to a TRUE and VALID democracy. The "leader" would be decided by a vote of all members. So Canadians would know that cooperation would by the key aspect in their judgments... There would than be possibilities to open discussions with native on definitives lines and concessions with what we would retrieve from Queen land took back. Provinces would get their own communication channel to advise and respond to provincial governments and municipal ones that would all benefits of a quick contact to the core of the system. We need to be able to share better and between only us (Assigned politicians) for the sake of our nation.

...my opinion...

Infact, Rev, that is a common misconception. The Queen ultimately holds the absolute power to do whatever she "pleasures" here in Canada. Just like the Australian system falls under ultimately jurisdiction to the queen, Aussie PM Gough Whitlam was dismissed in the 70s by the Queen. So we know she has the power.

Britain and Canada are CONSTITUTIONAl Monarchies. They are not ABSOLUTE Monarchies. England stopped being an Absolute Monarchy after we beheaded King Charles I in 1649 during the Civil War. Even France had an Absolute Monarchy for another 140 years whilst Britain had a Constitutional Monarchy.

The Queen holds almost no power, has no say in politics and can't even vote in elections. All the power in Britain and Canada are in the hands of our democractically elected governments.

During the 19th century - and probably still now - the Constitutional Monarchy was the best form of governance in the world.

We don't need the queen of a foreign country to be a guard dog to our democracy.

She's not the Queen of a foreign country. She's the Queen of Canada.

The British Monarchy does NOT rule Canada. The Canadian Monarchy does.

As it says in Wikipedia -

"A monarchy, from the Greek μονος, "one," and αρχειν, "to rule", is a form of government that has a Monarch as Head of State. A distinguishing characteristic of most monarchies is that the Monarch usually reigns as Head of State for life; in a republic, the Head of State (often called the president) is normally elected for a certain amount of time. There are currently 29 extant sovereign monarchies in the world. The monarchy of Britain rules more of the world than any other. However it does so NOT as the British monarchy but rather as 17 independent Realms including Canada and Australia."

So the British monarchy doesn't rule Canada. The Canadian monarchy does.

I think one ofthe reasons so many Canadians and Americans hate the Monarchy is because they don't understand probably what it actually represents and how it works. I know that judging by the comments I've read on this thread.

This British must have a far better understand of how the Monarchy works than the Canadians do - and only a tiny 9% of the British want to dump the Monarchy.

It would be a small number since she is a pretty big tourist attraction for your small little island.

Simple fact we don't need her, we don't benifit from her as a tourist attraction, the Monarchy is something which out lived it's use and down to it's core it teaches us one thing. "Some are born better then others" which is way outdated for any liberal democracy to believe. I had to sware allegence to her when I joined the military years ago and that was the hardist thing I had to do ever!!!!

Hmmm... Does that mean that if ever there is a draft but I refuse to sware allegiance to the Queen I won't be sent to war?

I believe that Absoule Monarchy is the best form of government in history.

I believe that Canadains are Nobles compared to the Americans whom I consider Peasents for rebeling against the British Empire. Canada has always been loyal to Great Britain and as a British Royalist-Nationalist I thank the great people of Canada. My favourite Colony in the British Empire was Canada and I think Canadians are the greatest people in the British Empire besides the British ofcours. It would be a shame for Canada to drop the Queen and create a President of Canada to be their head of state. If Canada does that the Canadains will become waterd down Americans.

I urge you great Canadain people dont get rid of the Queen as your head of state. Dont follow your rebelious neighbours to the south.

Canadians are Nobles and not Rebels

LONG LIVE THE UNITED KINGDOM OF GREAT BRITAIN AND THE KINDOM OF CANADA UNDER THE SAME MONARCHY.

Greetings Gen. Wolfe...

Remind me again if you would what qualifications are required (beyond genetics...) to become monarch?

Would it be fair to equate those qualifications as essentially the same as those standards to which our elected morons are held?

Charles is a dangerous and foolish man. He is already campaigning against things he doesnt understand, making idiotic comments on camera and basically losing the respect of sensible people. His sons are also acting up somewhat, although i suppose they have time to improve.

Personally i believe the prospect of charles taking the throne is a good reason to dismantle the monarchy.

it could be worse, though, he could be GWB

this is a list of great monarchs? edward the eighth abdicated after a week or so, king george the third went mad, queen victoria went on an imperial rampage across the world, killing thousands and giving syphillis to the rest, and king henry the eighth killed two of his wives... although to his credit he got rid of catholic rule. richard the third (i think) led the crusades, or some of them, which were basically an early form of ethnic cleansing

these monarchs are not all great. I dont know much about many of them but this is NOT a list of great monarchs

having noted your distaste for francophiles i should point out that several of the listed monarchs were francophiles and william was actually a frenchman
