These are going to be strange and intriguing events in the history of Quebec.
Libs 47
ADQ 41
PQ 36
the pot party would of won 3 seats if it was counted as a percentage.

Yeah I am so happy the Action Democratique has done so well.

This is a HUGE event for Quebec.

The separtist movement is destroyed.

The PQ has made had a dumping from AD.

Liberals and Charest did awful.

And this is GREAT for Harper... they'll be breaking out the Tim Hortons at 24 Sussix Drive.

expect a federal election to be called within a month.

AD will equate to Conservative.. the CPoC could pick up 40 some seats in Quebec.

BTW, what the heck is Charest going to do in his riding?

Will he have to swipe a one of his other MPs ridings and kick them out?

What will he do?

I love this! So much I watched the CTV Montreal coverage of it...

Jean Charest IS re-elected. They had not counted the anticipation vote boxes and they were in his favour.

This is where we will see what Jean Charest is made of. He can't take for granted the federalist vote anymore and he will have to adapt and deepen his approach to politics to get the trust of the population. Quebec has made a step forward in its approach to democracy by flushing the stagnating duality between federalism and hard core seperatism. The real winner of tonights's vote is Mario Dumont and the ADQ. The Liberals just got a clear message that they are not the bosses, the population is. The PQ did poorly and it's in position where it desperately needs to renew and transform itself. The Liberals just got a clear message that they won't do whatever they want to do without the consent of the population.

---

It is indeed a great victory for Mario Dumont and the ADQ. He's in the ideal position. Winning a majority of seats would have been a heck of a lot more risky for the man and his party. With a very solid minority of seats and with the experience it will gain by being the official oppostion party, the ADQ is in a situation where it could gain considerably more in the next election if it plays its cards well and if the other parties don't.

---

The PQ just went through a significant defeat. But thinking this is the end of seperatism in Quebec is very naive... The Québecois nationalist sentiment is deeply rooted in the population and Quebecers are not about to stop expressing their desire for autonomy and independance. These can very well be obtained within Canada... but will Canada be on the same wave length as the Québecois are?

We all know too well that the constitutional issue is not solved, and Quebec seems to be getting more than warmed up to start some negotiations...

With minority governments in both Quebec and Canada, I could very well see Harper, Charest and Dumont get together to offer Quebec a new consitutional deal. Hopefully, the deal would be so interesting that even the Bloc and the PQ would participate and agree with it, but that would be very surprisng. Constitional negotiations are quite risky and they are around the corner... You know what happended after Meech Lake and Charlottetown.

The ADQ stands on a positions of autonomy..but staying in Canada..

AKA, it promises all the gains of both parties with none of the losses, so it cuts the knees out of both parties.

Another election his year?

Unlikely, since the libs are in a fragile state, and the PQ, wich as balance of power regarding reelection, are not in a hurry to go to the next election, they have too much to rebuilt. But then again, it can happen. Its interesting that even in Montréal, county's that got either a liberal or Péquiste elected, the ADQ member was a close second. So next time might be good for them if they do their homeworks good.

But its nice to see some change.

I wanted to vote ADQ but was afraid that would let the PQ win in my county.
The lIbs won by 680 votes i think and the ADQ close behind. Amazing the the ADQ had no publicity and got alot of votes in my county of Megantic Compton

Yes amazing indeed, and the same applies to alot of countys. The projections where around 22 winnings, mostly from Mauricie and eastwards, but suprise surprise, winnings in Montérégie, Laurentide and Lanaudière. Now that they are finally reconized as a official party, they will have the funds to push in the more external regions like Abitibi, Saguenay-lac-st-Jean and Côte Nord. I personnaly didn't win my election, since Couillard won here in Jean-Talon (I like the guy tho), but the general ADQ winnings where beyond great.

It also stands on the principles of strong family values, tax cuts, welfare cuts, small government ...etc).
