What's happened to "free speech" in the Land of the "Free"?

Jagger's blast for censors

THE Rolling Stones last night blasted US TV censors for gagging their lyrics during the Superbowl.

Mick Jagger and the band said the move was “absolutely ridiculous and completely unnecessary”.

But TV chiefs at ABC — who muffled the sound on lyrics on Sunday — claimed the band knew it would happen.

Brian McCarthy, from the NFL, said: “The Stones were aware of it and were fine with it.”

TV chiefs cut the lines “Am I just one of your c****?” in Rough Justice and Start Me Up’s “You make a dead man c***”.

In 2004 Janet Jackson bared a boob during the Superbowl show and CBS were fined after thousands of complaints.

I think not said:
how else do you think they can control us?

Our chief weapon is surprise...surprise and fear...fear and surprise.... Our two weapons are fear and surprise...and ruthless efficiency.... Our three weapons are fear, surprise, and ruthless efficiency...and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope.... Our four...no... Amongst our weapons.... Amongst our weaponry...are such elements as fear, surprise....I'll come in again.

Amongst our weaponry are such diverse elements as: fear, surprise, ruthless efficiency, an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope, and nice red uniforms - Oh damn!

I think it’s kinda cute that one of those crusty old senior citizens is telling us that we young’uns are taking the country to hell in a handbasket.

Even if they kinda have a point.

But the instigators of censorship always do appear like they are a bit of an ass.

When will they learn to either pass an artistic endevour in its entirety, or chose another work.

Bleeping, blooping, or muffling out nasty verbiage does nothing more than draw attention to the censored word.

When listening to the lyrics of a hit song, or the dialogue in a well-known movie, it causes the viewers to supply the word by themselves.

Audience participation increases impact, don’t you know, but if they wish to emphasis where the dirty words were, personally, my dears, I don’t give a malediction.
