A group of wide-eyed nature enthusiasts were gobsmacked Sunday when they came across an enormous alligator in Lakeland, Fla.
The prehistoric-looking beast was captured on film as it casually strolled across a path at the Circle B Bar Reserve.
Video of the massive reptile was posted to Facebook by Kim Joiner, who added it was “nature at its best.
“He was the biggest gator I have seen out there,” Joiner wrote. “I have been going out there for years too.”
The gator, nicknamed Humpback, is estimated to be 12-feet-long – two feet short of the Florida state record.
The largest American alligator on record in the Sunshine State weighed in at 1,043 lbs., according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
Joiner’s Facebook post has been shared close to 32,000 times. While some have doubted Humpback's existence, Joiner insists the gator is real.
“No photoshop,” Joiner said.

Florida alligator leaps into airboat carrying Missouri couple

MIAMI — Less than a week after naturists discovered "Humpback" -- a massive, 12-foot gator near Lakeland, Fla. -- a Missouri couple vacationing in the Sunshine State had a close encounter with an alligator when it leapt into their airboat and became wedged in the boat’s railing.
Passengers screamed as 30-year-old Tylor Hindery of Springfield, Missouri, captured the moment in a Facebook live video posted Tuesday.
Hinderey tells the Miami Herald he talked his wife Emerald into an airboat ride.
The guide killed the engine and floated close to the bank so people could photograph the gator.
But Hinderey says the boat got stuck. The guide didn’t want to start the engine and scare the gator so he prepared to push off the bank. Just as he warned passengers not to make any sudden movements, the gator jumped into the boat.
The gator eventually slid in to the water. No one was hurt.
Moments later, this massive gator leapt into the boat.
