I don't know where you got 45% from. Page 137 has non-salary operating at 61.1% which makes salaries being roundabouts 27.8% of overall expenditures.

now then. Out of Fire and Ambulance, Police, Transit, Waste Management and all the other services the city provides, how much of the work would you call "menial"?

Don't forget his multi-billion plans to beautify Nathan Phillips Square and the waterfront (so the new condos being built there will have a nice pretty view).

Bottom line he wants to raise taxes so he can spend. The council gave themselves hefty pay increases and benifit increases. If they are so cash poor they need to have us pay more taxes (in addition to another 4% property tax hike) why are they not cutting spending on stupid stuff? The TTC is not one of the things that could be cut. How about cutting out the extra funding they gave to the playhouse to keep it from going bankrupt? Far more people can do with out a place for plays than their daily comute.

Miller is an asshole.

And I was referring to the possibility that when you put it into perspective trading in stability (which USED to be part of what governments were supposed to provide, not sure if it still is) by trimming a few dollars an hour off the low end of the pay spectrum is self deceiving nickel and dime bull****.

BitWhys, if it gets to the point where the city is close to bankruptcy all sort of cuts need to be considered.

Miller doesn't plan much, he just spends and spends hoping that the provincial government will bail the city. Miller refuses to acknowledge that part of the reason why this city is in such dire financial straights is due to him raping the cities cash reserves, overspending and failing to attract any new business to the city core. Lastman, the mayor before him was no better but under Millers rule we have seen increased taxes, increased transit costs and a general decay of city, in my opinion.

Sounds rough. At least if the Reform were in charge we'd be able to play a nice friendly game of "find the humour" as they increased spending by proportionally twice in one year what the ex-dipper's done while their fan based cheers their claim of fiscal responsibility.
