All you dirty breeders better not be caught talking about marriage or how much you love your mate of the opposite sex in Oakland CA.

The Supreme Court has been asked to reverse rulings that found the terms "marriage," "natural family," and "union of a man and woman" can be punished as hate speech in government workplaces.

The Washington Times reports the phrases were in a flyer distributed by city employees in Oakland, California. The flyers were in response to a homosexual group that was allowed to post promotional material on the city's e-mail system.

But a lesbian co-worker complained she felt "targeted" and "excluded" by the flyers — which the city ordered removed. The authors of the flyer sued, claiming discrimination, and lost.
The group representing the women who wrote the flyers says the rulings have silenced hundreds who simply wish to talk about marriage and family values.

Yeah like the Nazis wanted to try out different tourist destinations for local Jewish customers.

I can see why their flyers were disallowed. But I fail to see why the e-mails were allowed. Seems to me that the government should be free of all contrivertial positions regardless of which side of the debate you are on. I would not expect to have any religious, sexual or other material distributed by government systems.

It's appropriate to talk about family. It's appropriate to talk about spouse or significant other. When it crosses the line to "NATURAL family" then I agree, it's hate mongering. Its the same thing when someone jokingly says to my hubby "What, the Canadian women weren't good enough?" It's hurtful and isolationist.

I don't agree about the word marriage though unless they have constitutionally mandated that marriage can only be between a man and a woman. I know some states have done that, but I didnt think California was one of them.

The point is to keep your nose to the grindstone while at work & save the chitchat for your offduty hours:roll:

Amen for both of them. I personally am sick of people being so sensitive, but unfortunately that's the reality. God forbid you offend someone, so you better keep the speech completely bland and inoffensive to anyone...

Oops, I hope my using the word "God" didn't offend any of you.
