Man accused of fraud during Burlington mayoral election

A warrant has been issued for a Burlington man sought in connection with alleged fraud related to the city’s municipal election.
Ontario Provincial Police say they began investigating possible expense violations under the Municipal Elections Act in December of last year, at the request of regional police.
They say the alleged improprieties were related to the mayoral race earlier that year. Officers uncovered evidence that allegedly tied the accused to several offences.
OPP are seeking Sean Baird, 47, on charges of uttering a forged document, fraud over $5,000 and four counts of corrupt practice.
They say he is not affiliated in any way with the mayor’s office.
