I don't think you even have to whisper as the North American collective is (deep) asleep at the wheel. They aren't destined to wake up before it is way too late.
I'm curious. If you were the US govt, and you wished to broker peace, or at least, stabilize things in the region, which ME country would you talk to?
Conspiracy theories and accusations aside, who would you approach?
Right or wrong, the US has dealt with the Saudis politically and financially for many yrs. Better the devil you know. The US would have almost no success dealing with Iran, Iraq or Syria. I think the US is hoping that entering into a large business deal with the Saudis will continue a fairly good relationship. With the new tech going to them, I suspect the US is hoping to buy an ally. It also strengthens the Saudis against the neighbours. Whether it works long term is another matter.
But it's about money and power. The Saudis will continue their association with the US as long as it is in their best interests. Ditto for the US. That's all one can hope for there.
