In case Harvey being a pooka doesn't really answer your question.

The púca (Irish for spirit/ghost), pooka, phouka, phooka, phooca, puca or púka, is primarily a creature of Irish folklore.[1] Considered to be bringers both of good and bad fortune, they could either help or hinder rural and marine communities. The creatures were said to be shape changers which could take the appearance of black horses, goats and rabbits.

My favourite part of the movie is when you learn at the end of it that Elwood's aunt also sees Harvey and that he's "real"

That aunt is also in Arsenic and old Lace with Carey Grant. and fully off her rocker in that one too!

Those are the old movies I love. Not the dramas so much as they tended to be melo-dramatic somewhat. But the true comedies, they withstand the test of time!

Love Carey Grant also, almost as much as I love Jimmy Stewart. Bringing Up Baby, one of my all time favourites. I've been hunting for that one on DVD for years!
