Liverpool and Portugal striker Jota killed in car crash

Liverpool and Portugal striker Diogo Jota has today been killed in a car crash in Spain.

The tragedy occurred two months after Liverpool won the Premier League, one month after Portugal beat Spain to win the Nations League and ten days since he got married.

Spanish police confirm Liverpool and Portugal striker Jota, 28, and his brother were killed after a tyre burst, causing the car to crash and set on fire.

The incident happened at 00:30 last night in Spanish and British time.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer sends his condolences



British Prime Minister Keir Starmer - a big football fan - paid tributes to Liverpool and Portugal striker Diogo Jota, who has been killed in a car crash with his brother just after winning the Premier League and Nations League and just ten days after getting married.

Former Manchester United star Ronaldo: "It doesn't make sense. Just now you had got married. I send my condolences."

Cristiano Ronaldo, 40, former striker of Liverpool's deadly rivals Manchester United and regarded as one of the game's greatest ever players, pays tribute to Liverpool striker Jota who has been killed in a car crash aged just 28. The two were team mates during Portugal's successful Nations League campaign, which they won by beating Spain a month ago.
