I put that poll up, with links earlier today, BTW...along with an indepth analysis from another site. The Conservatives have picked up about 10%. The NDP are up about 26%. So who is benefitting most from this? Why?

Strictly by numbers, the NDP is gaining the most. Practically, the Conservatives are gaining the most because they will be the ones running the next government and the NDP will still be 3rd in seats. Maybe 4th depending on the BQ do.

RE: Liberals trailing beh

Well I see Martin was in town today giving out some love, er money $635 million over 5 years from fuel tax. I dunno if that will help him or not here as Federal Liberals always do okay out here anyways.

Just heard from a Conservative party supporter that they are ramping up to be ready for an election by May 16...

We'll vote on June 27, Vanni. I know that in my heart...like a NASCAR driver heading into a cloud of tire smoke with his foot to the boards.

That leaves them calling it by the end of May. Time for Gomery to quit taking testimony, but not for his decisions to end the spin. It's also before the kids get out of school and start looking for something to do...like putting up signs. Or kicking them over. A mid-May defeat of the government plays into the June 27 date really nicely.

Strictly speaking, unless the Conservatives win a majority they will have less power than a gnat. The NDP and the BQ are the power brokers in a minority government and they dress to the left. It's kind of funny, but the Conservatives best bet for their policies is to get Martin back in with the Cons as official opposition. They have more power now than they are likely to with a minority dominated by the NDP and BQ.

I think that was likely a provincial election thing, No1. I think that only because it got so little play on national TV. It will buy some federal votes too, no doubt, but the press liasons would have had it front and centre if they thought it could save St. Boniface for them here.

Well, a couple of weeks ago we were all talking about returning to the status quo of a Liberal minority. Then last week, talk turned to a Conservative minority and now there is talk about a Conservative majority as my fellow Ontarians start to wake up and are hitting the Liberals hard. The Conservatives have an 8 point spread on the Liberals and the funny thing is that the NDP even lost 2% points from last week.

Nationally: 36 per cent of decided voters would vote Conservative, up six points since the previous poll. Liberal support remains unchanged at 27 per cent. And 15 per cent would vote NDP, a four-point drop.

So much for your theory that the Conservatives aren't gaining any support. Maybe you should be more concerned as to why given the intense backlash against the Liberals, it's the NDP that is losing support faster than the Liberals.

After all the polls, Canadians still feel the best with Martin as PM.
They should let us have two votes, one for the member in your area and one for PM. Then again, the political system would have to change.
I still can not picture Harper or Layton as PM (Layton reminds me of a used car salesman)
