A pair of Liberal Members of Parliament have been suspended from their party’s caucus after allegations of two unrelated incidents of “personal misconduct” against MPs from another party.

MPs Scott Andrews and Massimo Pacetti, who the Liberal party says deny the allegations, will now sit as independents, and the Liberal party has asked the Speaker’s Office to investigate the allegations. (Read the letter)

The allegations are said to involve four MPs – Mr. Andrews and Mr. Pacetti and two MPs from another party said to have been the subject of the misconduct in unrelated instances.

Mr. Andrews, 39, has represented Avalon, a riding in eastern Newfoundland, since 2008. Mr. Pacetti, 52, has represented the Montreal riding Saint-Léonard–Saint-Michel since 2002.

Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau learned of two allegations on Oct. 28, 2014, according to a letter made public by the Liberal Party and signed by Newfoundland and Labrador MP Judy Foote, whose role as party whip is to manage the activity and discipline of her party’s MPs.

I guess with the issues at the CBC, it now became necessary to do something other than sweep it under the rug. Obviously, not the first choice of Justine if he held onto it for a week. Of course he could have been away doing his hair and this is the first chance he got to deal with it.

care to provide an update as to your described "CBC issues" and how they affect any political party? Does a week seem like an excessive time to you to do internal investigations and meet with all 4 persons mentioned?

hair? Perhaps you could provide the name of the 'stylist' who does Harper's helmet hair, yes?

I am not sure what type of sexual harassment issues at the CBC I could be mentioning.

10/28 was when Justine was informed by the person doing the investigations. You don't think Justine does any real work do you?

Trudeau waited too long.. This is a clear case that should involve the RCMP investigating the entire Party, they can start with Trudeau sexually harassing a bride on her wedding day.

The man has no shame whatsoever

I'm listening to 1010 right now and they are known for being a right leaning station.

To me, if you have investigated allegations on your desk on 10/28, I would think action should have happened on 10/29 or 10/30. I tend to think what happened is he waited until Juan Gomesshi stuff cooled down or observed that it was not going away and was forced to act. With the week delay, I have to assume that was about politics and optics and nothing more. Which is consistent with my observations of Justine to date.

But I will give him credit for firing them (although how he got chosen as his ethics critic is beyond me) although I do not credit him for acting swiftly or for any non-political motives.

He contacted the other whips and spoke with the NDP party members to confirm the nature of the allegations.

The statement he made today was that you need to take a measured approach but give the benefit of the doubt to those filing the complaints.

There is nothing unreasonable about the timing on all this.

And they have been suspended (not fired) which is more appropriate when you compare the situation with how CBC handled the Ghomeshi thing. They are now sitting as independents.

I think both Mulcair and Trudeau should be applauded for their level of professionalism on this issue.

It is a template for a lot of businesses to follow.

I agree.

Trudeau has acted absolutely appropriately in this instance.
