Harper's idea was to have local garrisons to provide aid in natural disasters.

lol, what natural disasters would that be????

Snowfall in Toronto, ice storms in Quebec, tsunami and/or earthquake in BC or the east coast, flu pandemic anywhere.

The federal Liberal emergency plan for tsunami or earthquake in BC is the AMERICAN military will come up and help from Washington State. (I'm not making this up :D }

As if the Yanks wouldn't be busy in Washington State, to say nothing of the absolute GALL of the Liberals, after biting US ankles for years.

Paul Martin has actually proposed to have American soldiers come into Canadian cities.

Canadian cities.

American soldiers with guns.

In our cities.

He actually said that.

We are not making this up.

Choose your Canada. Don't let the Americans take us over.

Hehehehehe...

Sorry, but I couldn't resist. ;)

Excellent post!!

Havn't read the whole thread so sorry if this is a repeat.

People should be more concerned about Paul Martin saying he approved the "soldiers with guns" ad and then minutes later in the same interview saying that he did not approve of the ad. The slam against the Canadian Armed Forces is totally uncalled for.

Not to mention that what the ad is saying is an unfounded malicious attack.

People should be more concerned about Keith Martin musing that
some "idiot" distributed this ad in error when it was published on
the website for a time and the french version is still running in
Quebec. The attempt in Quebec is to resurrect negative feelings of
when the federal government brought in the troops during the FLQ
uprising. Note that it was the Liberal government that was
responsible for that.

Don't forget Mel Lastman (Toronto) brought in troops to help with that 'huge' snowstorm. :)-

The Liberal's abyssmal failure to even keep their story straight on this ad scandal is yet another reason to throw them out of government. It's bad enough when you lie... it's head-shakingly stupid when you get caught in two or three different lies on the same issue.

while funny, there is a creepy double message in that parody (if it were run by the harperites).

Hmmm.... The american take-over, be it by sell-out or by force? A strange perdicament.

If they want to be offended fine. Martin didn't think so much money should be wasted on military in cities in times of peace and security. Why would Harper do it? As a big advertisement for how much fun the military can be.

Yes. With Harper in power - in your mind - the picture is of the military in our cities helping out. Notice how there is no "picture" in his policy of our military being in the middle east. Hey? How did that happen? Or more importantly...why?

The people who should be insulted are the military. They are the ones who will be in extended and underfunded & pragmatic wars when Harper says yes to the people who will surround him.

One thing to fight WWII - where with the exception of Dunkirk - Canadian soldiers were held back until the equipment was all ready. Then they put their lives on the line. And boy did they. And the world was saved. Not these loonies in the WH. Rummy doesn't want to break his budget. So he underfunds the army and sends in too few troops. The Iraqis say - why did they do it? Why so many mistakes. Some people think the USA wanted a long hard painful slop for the Iraqis purposefully - and without quick resolution - to teach the Iraqis to be traumatized about war. Same as the Europeans finally were. All this standing around is about making it hurt. And social revolution that comes from extended pain on the little people. "Shock & Awe?". More like Shock, Awe, Shock Awe, Shock Awe, Shock Awe, for years.

Tell Harper to come up with a policy for the army - that paints the picture of where they will really be. Not - hanging around downtown Saskatoon. But in the Middle East. Nice picture Mr. Harper. An untrue one.
