I have a hard time believing the poll is a real reflection of Canadian will.

The problem with Britain is the Labour Party is now in fact a conservative party, with Howdy Doody running the show.
Its the very group I don't want the NDP to be led by.
As for the poll? Yes I do believe it is the mood of the people.
Take a look around, about 18 months ago the world began its tilt toward the political left. Spain, much of South America, and now even Italy is leaning left. The United States is about to see the end of the Bush Regan era.
Canada will be up in the air for some time, but the Tories here have to be extremely careful or they will have a very short shelf life.

Why? Most polls are correct. Look at the results of the election and the polls taken the day before. They were only a point or two off.

I think the Liberal party should split from centre left to right. The centre right should join the Conservatives to make the conseritive party the big tent right centre right wing party and the NDP with the centre left from the liberals the big tent centre left wing party. Hell we live in a system (FPTP) which works a lot better under a two party system, until we change it we should run two big tent parties.


Anyhow as I've said many times before the only poll which matters is the one done on election nights. I don't care if the conservatives showed up in a poll with 2% and the ndp 51% I'd still not take that poll as good news for the ndp. I think polls can be interesting but are pretty worthless.

Finder, I like minority governments. Don't screw up a good thing.

Don't get me wrong I do too. But not with the electoral system we have. A minority vote on the parties has often produced strong magority governments.

Besides if we had two big tent centre-left and centre-right parties I think we'd get more done.

I have to agree about minorities. They are a good thing because they allow for the government to negotiate its policy so not only the people that elected them enjoy some benefits but people that may not have voted for them. Also, with a minority the government can't pass policy radical policies right or left.

I would be furious if the Conservative Party of Canada attempted to dissolve the Commons for an election in such short order — I would think that the citizens of Canada expect something to get done during this 39th Parliament of Canada, and I don't see how dissolving both Houses for another four, five or six months is going to do that.

this coming from the guy who advocated for the dissolution of the govt at the throne speech

The only reason I like minorites is because the people of Canada have voted in minorty governments for years now but we've only actually gottien two. These fake magority governments with a minority vote from 37-45% of the vote is purely undemocratic and totally not fair. Now I wouldn't mind if they were to make it slightly more democratic but have stabilizers set in place to favour magority governments, as in giving the victor a set number of extra seats.
