I wonder if Bernier was influenced by American libertarians to take this move. They don't care about short term politics in canada but very much do care that diversity and social programs don't win out in the long term and desperately want a foot keeping the door to racism open and which Andrew Scheer was closing. With no party representing the racists, how could the Koch brothers and the like get influence in canada? Why some of the current canadian racists might remove the horns from their avators and try to fit in and actually enjoy being 'all in it together'. I wonder if the Conservative Party will be smashed by this? Or will they give in?

Bernier's comments on immigration worry me somewhat. However, let's look at the package. He's also the most pro-free trade politician among the parties: all the others are defending corporate welfare aggressively. I'm willing to look past his immigration comments in favour of his stance on free trade. If the others are serious about side-linging him, it's easy: stop corporate welfare.
