It's a one ton if I remember correctly. You did say F-350, didn't you? Now why do you need a one ton truck? Are you a farmer? Are you a contractor? You've never said, but you certainly seem to want to give the impression that you have a high-paying white collar job.

Big trucks are convenient rev, that's all. They are useful when buying that giant screen TV, or hauling the boat to the lake. Not to mention, a safe and reliable vehicle for the family.

The half ton doesn't come in the "Big Dooley" option, also called Dually option. Four wheels in the back gives extra towing power when towing a camper home across the country.

Ford? Yep, it makes me question my sanity too. I have a full size F150 and it costs me a Queen's ransom to fill the damn tanks. Of course I am getting rid of it in favour of something I can actually PARK in the miniature spot here in the building. Then again, it was a gift from my dad when he bought his new truck, so even being a Miata person at heart, I accepted with grace and thanks.

Hank, as much as I hate to do this, I have to agree with you on the gun registry. I think it stinks. I don't believe, despite some good intelligent debate with people who actually know what they're talking about, that gun registry is a good thing. I hate it.

Particularly after watching what happened in New Orleans ... If I were in that situation I'd sure feel more comfortable with my .38 tucked in my pocket. The extra money their government saved on not outlawing all the US firearms didn't seem to help much. 8O

Of course not, Rev. Many of my neighbors own double-cab pickup trucks. It's simply a matter of life, they are the most convenient family vehicles. Lots of room, convenient and very safe in case of accident.

I own a crew-cab, Nascar Nero. It was a necessary vehicle when I was contracting. I know a few things about them.

Anybody who has ever had to park one in a crowded lot would not refer to them as convenient.

Being pick-up trucks, they are also not terribly safe. You know what happens when a full-frame vehicle with a bolted-on cab hits something hard? The floor folds up and cuts your feet off. Engine mounts have a tendency to snap off freeing up the engine to land on your chest. In collisions with vehicles of the same size, death and serious injury rates sky-rocket with trucks. If you think your truck is safer than the average vehicle, then you haven't done your research.

Rev, I have been involved in a few collsions (one was a result of a red light runner), so I know how safe my truck is.

Chances are if the collision is severe enough for the engine to come into the cabin, it would most likely be severe enough to propel you through the windshield. When involved in a collision against the average smaller vehicle though, you would stand a better chance being in a larger truck than the person in the smaller vehicle. And your truck would most likely not be totaled. I could not say the same for the smaller vehicle.

As for crowded lots, unless shopping and it's Christmas season, there usually ain't no problem.

There are many conveniences that smaller trucks just couldn't handle (towing a mobile trailer, carrying a 4-wheeler ...etc).

Buy a little VW, they make excellent diesel engines. Want safety? Buy a Volvo. Want to tow something? Don't. It's been my experience that people who buy trucks when they are looking for penis extenders can't use the mirrors properly and are a hazard to themselves and others as a result.

In that case Rev, you buy the little VW and try to sqeeze your wife and kids into the vehicle on a long cross country trip. Not to mention ducking your head down while driving ... As for me, I will stick with the comfort and safety of my vehicle.

Last year, in a momentary lapse of judement, I was looking at the Dodge Rams because of their towing power. However, I came to my senses and stayed with reliable Ford. For durable trucks with good engines, diesel Fords can't be beat.

Actually the GM diesel kicks the Ford's ass and you don't have all the transmission problems to deal with.

I doubt you've actually seen much country, Nero. I also doubt your truck has seen any action that average grandmother couldn't manage in a 1973 Celica.

Heres a tip for you guys a person in my family bought a 04 GMC diesel 4 by 4 .He noticed that it was eating about a litre a month of oil but there were no leaks .He took it to the dealer before the warranty ran out and demanded they fix the problem .The dealer got in contact with Gm and they had them put a brand new motor in it .The kicker of the story is the dealer was told not to open the motor up and to crate it and ship it back to GM.If you know any body with these trucks tell them to watch there oil consumption :wink: They just might be able to get a fresh motor

I never owned a diesal. I owned a 98 GMC Sierra half ton 4x4 and it could pull a 20 foot trailer no problem. I could put two quads in back and no problem. I never needed anything else. Just a waste of gas. I was getting 17 in town and 25 on highway with a 350 vortec.

I also heard from people that had diesals, that Dodge made the best ones. Like I said I never owned a diesal, so I do not know first hand.
