By this time tomorrow, all Canadians will know which team triumphed during the Grey Cup. The teams are ready. The fans are ready. The weather looks to be cooperating. The Pregame show gets underway at 10:00 PST. The game begins at 3:30 PST.
I will especially enjoy this Grey Cup as it will feature two teams who are the very best in their divisions. Unlike other years when a team snuck in the back door after having a relatively poor regular season, the best of the best will be meeting on the field in Calgary.
Montreal has a superb, mature, well-balanced team. With only three losses during the regular season, they are odds on favorites. You can be sure that every minute their offense is on the field they will be a threat to our Riders, and their defence will likewise give DD more than a few headaches.
On the other hand, the Riders, since the beginning of the season have put wins and losses aside and stayed on track as they steadily improved game after game. At the beginning of the season, Darian Durant was an unknown factor in our game. Many doubted his ability to direct the team and bring it into one coherent unit, he proved all of them wrong. Our defence was pretty good to begin with but it too saw improvements and many a QB got pretty tired of seeing the Chick Machine or Stevie Baggs in his face. We lost Weston Dressler and Jamie Boreham and still managed to put points on the board. The Riders are now a team to be reckoned with no matter where they play.
I would venture to say that at this very point, both teams are pretty evenly matched, fortunately. When the Riders take the Cup home tomorrow, they won't be accused of 'beating up' on a lesser team.
