* Why does the Bloc québécois de l'Ontario oppose Confederation?
* Primarily because of the 8 non-Québec/Ontario provinces. We believe that these provinces are fundamentally pointless and add nothing to the nation of Québec. We believe that Québec (including Ontario) would be much better off without them. However, under the present constitutional arrangement, in order to kick them out of Confederation, we actually have to ask their permission. Obviously, this will not work, so the only viable option is sovereignty for Québec.

Actually, I can see Ottawa/Hull fusing together and forming some sort of national capital entity should Quebec separate.

A Bloc québécois government in Ontario will promote the following policies:

Lowering the legal drinking age to 18.
Lower the de facto drinking age to 14.
Implement a Civil Code of Québec (Ontario).
Introduce land use planning reform to limit the density of establishments serving primarily donoughts as its principal activity.
Reduce spending on roads.
Eliminate excessive regulation on minimum apparel requirements in drinking establishments.
Reduce university tuition rates to the national average, and once the national average has been readjusted to reflect this, reduce tuition rates to the national average.

Either they're trying really hard for the horny drunken doughnut hating teenager vote... or this is a hoax...

How do these people get this far in life without getting some sense kicked into them? We really need to stop curtailing school bullying, If kids aren't told they're douchebags in juniour high, look what happens.

Seriously though we have French communities here in BC, there are some larger ones in Manitoba, A large french population in New Brunswick and smaller french populations throughout the country, so why doesn't the bloc run candidates in some of those areas? Who knows they may win a couple more seats, not to mention being a good protest vote alternative.

You know..for all its worth, i was reading some of the Bloc's platform..and i thought to myself, maybe its an advantage to promote provincially, regionally based parties.

Alot of changes occured in response to the Reform Party, which is about to be demolished under this unified party. Regional based parties understand best in relation to the region it represents, so are more willing to go out on a limb to promote ideas of said country.

National parties have a tendancy to want to appease all provinces, which will never happen. And what inevitably ends up happening is that you get policies that are good for one area, particularly areas that are strong backers of said power in charge, at the expense of other regions.

Maybe seperation would be avoided if instead of electing parties based on a federal platform, we elect parties on a regional platform.

I agree with you. For someone living in Québec, either federalists or independantists, who can most represent their ideas and values than a political party that work ONLY for them.

The bloc main goal, and they will repeat it anytime, is: if it's good for Québec, we agree, if not, we reject.

But from my point of view, I consider conservatives and liberals regional partys. Look at where their core members are.
