NDP Leader Jack Layton said the current mission is Afghanistan "is not going to succeed," and that the country must take a new direction in the new year.

Although there have been a couple of twits in the NDP as of late, I must Admit that Layton, even before Harper took power, always seemed to have a better head on his shoulders in issues.

I never agreed with his direct pull out option he's been issuing for the last year or so, but the above article does seem more balanced and he has a better view on the situation then he did before.

It is true though..... this war is not going to end the way it is going now.... and we sure as hell can't just waltz into Pakistan to deal with the Taliban there, because of many obvious reasons.

And in the end, it will have to end with talks, because Canada and other NATO allies can throw all the troops and equipment there as long and as much as they want..... the Taliban, although not as technilogically on par with us, still have a good level of influence in the area, can still recruit their own forces, and this whole cycle will never end.
