Laws Need to Change So Kids Are Held Accountable For Their Actions

The young offenders Act needs a major overhaul. A group of irresponsible kids almost killed a Winnepeg area boy after locking him in a shed and setting it on fire. They can't be charged as they are all under 12 years of age. Well I say let's change the laws so 10 year old kids who commit serious crimes are held accountable for their actions.

I read that story today, dear gawd. What if that poor child had not been released?

As much as I do feel children are more suseptable to "re-habilitation", I'm really tired of the bleeding hearts that still think they should not be held accountable for their acts, just because of their age.

What exactly did these children think was going to happen to someone locked in a shed that is on fire?

Why so Kreskin, we all try to instill values, well most of us, and morals in our children, but they are suseptable to outside influence and a mob mentality, beyond the parents perview.

Children should be held accountable, shifting the blame to the parents, gives children a useful tool to cause their parents serious problems, the next time lil Johnny gets his XBox taken away.

The kids should be punished. But so should the parents. And 10-year olds can't be charged? That's weird.

Fight fire with fire. The parent involved should quietly - supremely quietly - encourage other 10 and 11 year olds to exact punish on his child's behalf. Canada lost some of its marbles during the pothead seventies. We never regenerated and as a result protests continue against the newest version of the Juvenile Delinquents Act. We never get it right because those professions benefitting from a broken system continue to own the system's keys. The older I get the dumber everything looks.

Trying isn't good enough. Getting the values instilled is a parents job. It's not a teaching effort. It's a holistic way of life. But since that won't happen I like the law the way it is. A kid doesn't fully appreciate the consequences of their actions.

Lock up the parents for sure, it's time parents become more responsible for their children's actions. As for these kids, you could send them to jail or take them away from their parents because it's clear in this case these parents failed as parents..

A young person should either be removed from his parental governance and lose his/her freedom for a period of time as well as spending some of that time receiving professional guidance, learning responsibility within the home and society and in many cases catching up on lost or discarded academic studies.

The parents should be financially punished - paying for the child's "time out" and professional help as well
as any damages incurred to others or property.
