If I live in a socialist paradise, I want it to be one that isn't under an economic blockade by the US, where I can ski and where I can watch Corner Gas, in French!!!!

.Anyway, it seems that South America is leading the way, though Sweden and Denmark have been both positive and cautionary examples.
I hold out hope that 'Murca may begin to wise up: Chomsky always emphasizes that we in the NorthWestern hemispheres don't have a realistic sense of time when it comes to societies growing up. He uses abolitionism/civil rights and women's rights as examples, each of which was two hundred years or so of organised struggle, to get to the point we're at now.
Anyway, the socialism/capitalism thing is a bit of a red herring, IMO. The issue is democracy vs totalitarianism, and I don't mean just the opportunity to vote for well-heeled tools of business once every four years when I use the 'D" word. :wink:

i agree with you pasta. socialism/capitalism/communism is the old false struggle of ideals, of which none work in their pure forms. It will be interesting to see the path canada takes to true democracy. I am very much interested in accelerating the rate of change to true democracy, but as with most things there is a lot of resistance. It is human nature to avoid/resist change.

How much more socialist do you want it? You have public schools; university is virtually free. Gun control… freedom of speech is out the window....people are heavily taxed, centralized Federal healthcare, a Federal government that doesn't give two hoots about jurisdiction. Huge unions that have their employers by the balls and massive Crown Corporations. State run media…More social assistance than you can shake a stick at…More anti-American rhetoric than I certainly can handle…. I mean what more could you want?
