What are you proposing? Banning meet? 1.00$ a litter gas tax. Shutting down coal power in Ontario and the oil industry in Alberta? There is a reason that Harper says meeting Kyoto would mean economic hardship. There is no magic bullet.

Most people that advocate Kyoto are unwilling to changer there own life and they expect the rest of Canada to do what they aren’t.

Well, we had a very productive thread where we discussed all the small things that can be done that add up. Everything from the type of lightbulbs used, to energy conservation, getting more people into public transit, cutting down less trees, more wind power, more solar power, putting an end to power grids and having electricity made on a smaller scale in backyards, or common areas, biodiesel, the list goes on and on and on. The idea that the entire economy will crumble if Kyoto if we attempt to meet kyoto targets is just false.

And I can see you have about as much faith in Canadians as Harper does. Thanks...thanks alot.

It many not crumble, but I really don't want a 65% jump in my electric bill, as some Europeans have experienced.

If we are to meet our Kyoto commitments, as recent Liberal led legislation insists, we have a helluva lot of work to do. And a lot of sacrifice. Middle class Canadians are already under the gun. The tightening of belts due to this exasperating year of accelerating pump prices is small change compared to what is likely to be proposed.

Absolutely, no one seems to give a rats ass about the backs of the men and women, who will undoubtedly have to bear the burden of these socialist wet dreams.

Big oil, hydro and other service providers, are not going to bear the brunt of the cost. Trickle down economics, will look more like Niagra Falls and the working class will be at the bottom.

Whenever I hear Harper say that Canada cannot meet it's targets and should pull out of Kyoto, what I really hear is that he does not believe that Canadians are smart enough, innovative enough, hard working enough, conciencious enough, dedicated enough, strong enough and interested enough to make it work. That makes me sad. He doesn't have much faith in Canadians. What a great leader.

I fail to see why we should suffer, scrimp and save, to put money in the coffers of a country with 70% coal power generation (not cleaning burning coal plants either) and some of the worst human rights violations on the planet. That seems more about promoting totalitarianism then reducing pollution.

CDN, we are so hopelessly behind meeting targets only the most draconian policies have a chance in making us close the gap. Canada is an expensive country to live in. We don't need to have the Mother of All Budget Breakers dumped in our lap.

We shall see as the year unfolds
What is glimmer, what is gold.
Who should pay and who should fret
What you want is seldom what you get.

Funny. I hear the exact opposite.

I hear someone who has his feet firmly on the ground instead of having his head in the clouds. Someone who is pragmatic that puts Canada before China and India.

Someone who believes Canadians are smart enough to realize that we cannot make a difference in the world by shutting down 2 coal fired plants when China is allowed to build 600 new coal fired plants.
