A blast of power greeted King Charles III as he visited the Royal Regiment of Artillery at Baker Barracks on Thorney Island, West Sussex.

Britain's Head of State watched an impressive gun salute and observed soldiers in camouflage conducting air defence drills, including mobile multiple launchers and UAV demonstrations.

He met members of the 7th Air Defence Group, active-duty families, and community groups, before unveiling a commemorative plaque and joining a celebratory cake-cutting.

The visit concluded with the King greeting local schoolchildren and members of the public.

As Commander-in-Chief of the British Armed Forces and the Head of State King Charles III regularly inspects his military forces. He is the boss.

The King's mother - the great Queen Elizabeth II - and his father Prince Philip both served in World War II. His grandparents King George VI and Queen Elizabeth both refused to leave Britain for the safety of Canada during the War. The military and the Windsors have very close ties.
