King and Queen welcome South Korean president for State Visit

The King and Queen have welcomed South Korea's President Yoon Suk Yeol and first lady Mrs Kim Keon Hee to the UK as they begin a three-day state visit.

Watching events on a dais were Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Foreign Secretary Lord Cameron, Home Secretary James Cleverly and Defence Chiefs of Staff, and William and Catherine, the Prince and Princess of Wales.

Prince Richard, the Duke of Gloucester, laid a wreath at the Korean War Memorial in central London as part of the official state visit of the South Korean president Yoon Suk Yeol.

Prince Richard, the cousin of Queen Elizabeth II - they are both grandchildren of King George V - who is 31st in line to the Throne was joined by the South Korean President and his wife Mrs Kim Keon Hee as they paid tribute to the 81,000 lives lost in the Korean War on its 70th anniversary.

King Charles III and Queen Camilla, along with the Prince and Princess of Wales, give South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and First Lady Kim Keon Hee a tour of the Royal Collection of art and artefacts in Buckingham Palace Picture Gallery. The Princess of Wales looked resplendent in the Strathmore Rose tiara, which once belonged to the King's grandmother the Queen Mother, which is worth around £500,000.

Royal family members including King Charles III and Queen Camilla, the Prince and Princess of Wales, Princess Anne and Sophie, Countess of Wessex, attended a State Banquet at Buckingham Palace to welcome the South Korean president Yoon Suk Yeol.

Also in attendance were Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Sir Keir Starmer and K-pop girl band Blackpink. The King's banquet speech praised South Korean culture's "remarkable ability to captivate imaginations".

Although he admitted he hadn't much of "what might be called Gangnam Style".

The banquet concluded the first day of the South Korean president's state visit to the United Kingdom.
